Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty

What is rhinoplasty? The term rhinoplasty is often referred to simply as a nose job. A nose job can be done for medical reasons or cosmetic reasons (or a bit of both.)

A nose job involves reshaping the nose and this procedure can really have a dramatic improvement on the life of the patient. Having this type of cosmetic surgery might be something the patient has considered almost their whole life. Still, making the choice to have cosmetic surgery done is almost never a choice taken lightly as there are many areas to consider.

Reasons for a Nose Job

Some people were born with a nose that seemed too large for their face or that has an unusual and unflattering shape. Some people have had their nose broken due to an accident. And, some people have medical problems such as a deviated septum that require Rhinoplasty. Whatever the reason, a nose job can be positive both for appearances sake and for health reasons.

The Cost of a Nose Job

What does it cost to have a nose job done? Depending on where you live, the cost of this surgery could range from a few thousand dollars to over ten thousand dollars. Sometimes the cost is covered or partially covered by your health insurance plan so if you want to have this procedure done, it is wise to look at your health insurance policy to see if any or even all of the costs could be covered.

Preparing for Rhinoplasty Surgery

Preparing for cosmetic surgery will include one or more consultations with the cosmetic surgeon and that surgeon will have pre-operative directions for you for things you need to do in order to prepare for your surgery.

Your surgeon might tell you to discontinue use of specific medications and / or supplements for a period of time leading up to your surgery. You’ll discuss any medications you are taking at length to ensure you don’t have negative health implications.

After Your Surgery

After Your Surgery

After cosmetic surgery, you’ll need someone to take you home and stay with you for a few days afterwards. You’ll need some time off work and will feel groggy for a few days. Rhinoplasty recovery time, like any other surgery, will vary depending on the person and their overall health but generally, people are back to feeling like their normal (but improved) selves within about a week. The nose is generally bandaged for about a week and your cosmetic surgeon will want to schedule a follow up appointment with you. It can take a few weeks for swelling around the nose to diminish.

Getting a nose job for cosmetic reasons can really do a lot for you in terms of how you feel about yourself. Some people fear being made fun of for having it done but afterwards, often wish they had taken that step years earlier. Overcoming what feels like a limitation due to physical appearance can be very liberating both personally and professionally and can make a big difference to your motivation and vibrancy with life.
